The Paris Olympics are just days away, and many fashion and accessories brands, keen to capitalize on the influx of local and foreign tourists to the French capital this summer, are opening seasonal pop-up stores. Melissa, Guess Jeans, Palladium and Sundeck are among the brands that have set up a temporary presence in Paris during the Olympic extravaganza, as seen in the curated list below.
Melissa goes to Marais in colorful sandals
Just months after unveiling a vibrant pop-up store at the Milan Furniture Fair, Brazilian footwear brand Melissa is setting up shop in the Marais from July 22 to August 22, with an immersive activity titled “Melissa Frizzante.”
Melissa will be showcasing her colorful plastic jelly sandals at 23 rue du Pont-aux-Choux in Paris, promising an experience that engages all five senses, thanks to a selection of non-alcoholic fruit drinks..
Melissa will introduce new colors of its best-selling Possession sandal, with bold names like “Don’t Worry Be Berry,” “Jelly Spritz” and “Watermelon Haze.” The brand, founded in 1979, is also present in the French capital at Haussmann’s flagship store in Galeries Lafayette, with a window display initiative running from June 6 to July 30.
Guess Jeans parties on the Champs-Elysees
This summer, Guess Jeans held an impressive pop-up in the main hallway and entrance tunnel of the Galeries Lafayette branch on the Champs-Elysées, tracing the denim brand’s heritage and presenting its new manifesto, “The Next 40 Years of Denim.”
After stopping at the Haussmann flagship store on rue Haussmann in June, Guess Jeans has now moved to its branch at 60 avenue des Champs-Elysées. Open from July 2 to August 18, the pop-up store showcases the first Guess Jeans for women and men developed using Guess Airwash, the brand’s new laser washing technology.
The Californian brand also offers its customers the opportunity to customize jeans, shirts and denim jackets using a laser machine that simulates faded effects.
Hello Kitty at Galeries Lafayette
Global superstar Hello Kitty is celebrating her 50th birthday. To mark the occasion, the brand has teamed up with Galeries Lafayette Haussmann in Paris to open a fun, colourful and slightly vintage pop-up store, open from July 18 to August 26.
Expect a big dose of KawaiiTo celebrate its 50th anniversary, the cute cat character created by Japanese entertainment company Sanrio has opened a pop-up store on the third floor of the Galeries Lafayette flagship store at 40 rue Haussmann, with an ambiance inspired by some of Paris’ most famous landmarks. Customers and tourists will be able to take selfies with the Japanese pop culture icon in front of a miniature Eiffel Tower.
Catering to fun, child-friendly whims, the store features the new Hello Kitty X Galeries Lafayette exclusive collection (including mugs with charming designs), as well as products developed in collaboration with French brands such as sustainable startup Flotte, leather goods label Marie Martens, lifestyle brand Le Bijou Parisien, and directional fashion label Balzac Paris.
Palladium opens in two Paris department stores
To celebrate the arrival of the Olympic flame in Paris, French footwear brand Palladium is tapping into its aviation heritage by opening pop-up stores at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann (open from July 31 to August 28) and at BHV (from July 22 to August 12).
An adventure destination. Founded in 1947, Palladium has teamed up with two Parisian department stores to create an immersive urban exploration experience, with metal shelves and wooden arches inspired by the design of an airplane cabin, showcasing the brand’s products in an original and innovative way.
Palladium is also presenting a capsule collection of clothing, accessories and espadrilles designed in homage to Paris. The collection includes a sky blue windbreaker, ultra-lightweight nylon and polyester shorts, and a skirt made of breathable fabric with drawstrings. As a bonus, the French brand will distribute 30,000 T-shirts on the streets of Paris while the pop-up stores are open.
Colorful swimwear by Sundek at Galeries Lafayette
Sundek, an Italian swimwear brand founded in 1958, is heading to Paris during the Games to present a distinctive sports collection in the colors of the Olympic nations. The destination is Galeries Lafayette’s Haussmann flagship store.
Open from July 2nd to July 22nd, Sundek Sports’ pop-up store showcases a new Olympic-inspired collection. It features 14 different styles of beach shorts (made from taffeta and recycled polyester from renewable plastic bottles) in the colours of the flags of France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Canada and Australia, as well as a selection of very colourful T-shirts bearing the slogan “We’ve been surfing all over the world since 1958”.
