Fiji Airways is planning to launch flights to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), offering Australian travelers a new route to the southern United States and beyond. The airline recently sought approval from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin direct service between NAN and the Texas hub, using its new 334-seat A350 aircraft for the flight.
As the national airline of Fiji, Fiji Airways holds a scheduled international air services permit from the Fiji Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, allowing it to operate flights to any destination in the United States.
The addition of the Dallas-Fort Worth route will bring Fiji Airways’ U.S. destinations to four, joining its existing services from Nadi to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Honolulu. The airline also operates flights to Vancouver in Canada.
Fiji Airways CEO Andre Viljoen said in a recent interview that the airline is also considering launching flights to Seattle.
Since a large portion of Fiji Airways’ business comes from Australia and New Zealand, many Australian travelers are likely to use the new Dallas-Fort Worth service, whether or not it includes a stop in Fiji.
Fiji Airways declined to comment further on the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport request.
Viljoen also hinted at the possibility of introducing flights to two new destinations on the east coast of Australia, providing more direct access to Fiji’s beautiful beaches for Australian travellers.
Fiji Airways has been very active lately. In June, the airline announced plans to join American Airlines’ AAdvantage loyalty program next year.
Following a record-breaking 2023, Fiji Airways also announced that it will become the 15th oneworld member airline, moving from its previous status as a oneworld connect partner.
In another accolade, Fiji Airways was ranked 15th best airline in the world, beating major carriers such as Etihad, Lufthansa, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines in the World Airline Awards, the world’s largest survey of airline passenger satisfaction. In addition, it was recognized as the best airline in the Australasia and Pacific region.
In May, the airline introduced its Chef’s Table, a new fine dining experience for passengers at the FJ Premier Lounge at Nadi Airport.
