In Bhubaneswar, local hoteliers are calling for a major revision of the current tourism policy. They believe that the current framework under the BJP government has not been effective in attracting sufficient numbers of domestic and international tourists.
In response to this challenge, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha has come up with a “100 Days Strategic Plan”. This plan identifies the necessary improvements to tourism infrastructure and aims to enhance the overall attractiveness of the state as a tourist destination.
As part of its recommendations, HRAO urges the government to immediately convene a meeting with all relevant stakeholders, including tourism trade organisations, to discuss the proposed changes and begin implementing them. The focus is on updating the Odisha Tourism Policy, which was initially introduced in 2022.
The association maintains that developing tourism infrastructure is essential for the sector’s growth in Odisha. It argues that without these crucial improvements, the state will continue to underperform in attracting tourists, which is vital to the local economy.
