Alaska Airlines is expanding its fleet by adding more first and premium class seats.
Starting in September, the Seattle-based airline will retrofit more than 200 aircraft, adding additional first-class and premium class seats. The upgrades will be implemented on the airline’s Boeing 737-900ER, 737-800 and 737-9 MAX aircraft.
In total, Alaska Airlines will add 1.3 million premium seats annually to its mainline fleet.
As part of the upgrade, Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 First Class seats will feature a leg rest, a new seatback device holder, a six-way headrest with neck support, and USB-C charging capabilities. Main and Premium Class passengers will also benefit from new device holders with built-in cup holders, USB-C charging, and a six-way headrest with neck support.
The upgrades will begin this fall with the Boeing 737-900ER, followed by the 737-800 in early 2025. The Boeing 737-9 MAX will see six additional seats in the Premium Cabin starting in spring 2025.
Alaska Airlines operates three cabin classes: Main, Premium, and First Class. Premium Class passengers enjoy perks such as complimentary cocktails, beer, and wine, as well as early boarding. First Class passengers also benefit from two free checked bags and the option to pre-order complimentary meals.
This summer, through September 2, Alaska Airlines is selecting just one Prime Class passenger per day to receive a complimentary upgrade to Premium Class, making it easier for travelers to experience these enhanced services.
In June, Alaska Airlines became one of the most punctual U.S. airlines, and it recently introduced a paid subscription service that offers discounts on Wi-Fi and early access to sales.
