Boeing (NYSE: BA) and National Airlines today announced that the international carrier has placed its first order for four 777 Freighters. Known as the longest-range twin-engine freighter with unmatched payload capability, the 777 Freighter is set to enhance the airline’s commercial cargo services and increase its global market share.
“We are very pleased with this fantastic deal to purchase four Boeing 777 Freighters. This demonstrates our commitment to providing efficient, innovative and modern air cargo services to support the growing transportation requirements of our global customers.” Christopher Alf, Chairman of National Airlines, said: “This order underscores our fleet growth plan as we enter the next chapter of National. We sincerely appreciate the support of Boeing and all of its associated teams on this next journey.”
Upon completion of the acquisition, National Airlines’ first direct acquisition of Boeing aircraft will be announced on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries page.
The 777 Freighter is the world’s leading twin-engine freighter, with an impressive range of 9,200 kilometres (4,970 nautical miles) and a maximum payload capacity of 107 tonnes. These features allow operators to move more cargo over longer distances without stopping, providing superior operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
“We appreciate Wataniya Airways’ confidence in Boeing and the 777 Freighter to grow the airline’s global fleet and deliver greater value to its customers.” Stephanie Pope, Chairman and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “With its cargo capacity, range and reliability, operators continue to rely on the 777 Freighter to build their future fleets, making it the best-selling freighter of all time.”
The National Airlines fleet will soon be enhanced with the addition of 777 Freighters, complementing its existing nine 747-400 Freighters. The 777 Freighter is designed to integrate seamlessly with the 747, facilitating cargo transfers between the two aircraft, thus improving ground logistics and enhancing cost efficiency through fleet consolidation.
Boeing has already delivered more than 270 777 Freighters, cementing its position as the leader in the freighter market. The Boeing fleet represents more than 90 percent of the world’s dedicated freighter capacity, including newly produced and converted airplanes. Looking ahead, Boeing’s 2024 Commercial Market Outlook projects the introduction of an additional 2,845 freighters over the next two decades to support increased global trade and e-commerce.
As the world’s leading aerospace company, Boeing designs, manufactures and services a broad range of commercial airplanes, defense products and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries. As one of the largest U.S. exporters, Boeing leverages a diverse network of global suppliers to drive economic growth, sustainability and positive social impact.
