The Maldives saw a 14% increase in tourist arrivals in July, with 160,000 tourists visiting the islands, according to the Ministry of Tourism. This is a significant increase from the 140,000 tourists recorded in July last year, adding an additional 20,000 visitors this year.
This increase comes after a decline in numbers over the past two months, indicating a positive trend for the hospitality sector.
From January to July this year, the Maldives welcomed 1.1 million tourists, a 9.6% increase compared to 1 million arrivals during the same period in 2023. The government has set an ambitious target of 2 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year, requiring an average of 180,000 visitors per month during the remaining months.
China tops the list of countries in terms of the number of tourists with about 157,000 visitors, followed by Russia with about 125,000 visitors, then the United Kingdom with about 104,000 visitors so far this year.
