LATAM Airlines Brasil is enhancing connectivity with a new weekly service from Fortaleza to Santiago, which will launch on November 30, using advanced technologies. Airbus A320neo.
LATAM Airlines Brasil is set to launch a weekly service from Fortaleza to Santiago, Chile’s bustling capital, starting November 30. Using state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo aircraft, this new route marks LATAM’s eighth direct connection between Brazil and Santiago. The airline expects to carry approximately 14,500 passengers annually on this route, enhancing connectivity and boosting tourism and business travel between the two countries.
LATAM Airlines Brazil, originally known as TAM Airlines, Operating under the umbrella of the LATAM Airlines Group, it offers domestic and international flights from major hubs in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasilia. According to National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil Brazilian airline LATAM (ANAC) captured 37.8% of the domestic market and 18.2% of the international market in terms of passenger kilometers flown between January and December 2023. These figures reinforce its position as the leading airline in Brazil in both domestic and international markets.
Prior to the merger with LAN Airlines of Chile, TAM Linhas Aéreas was the largest airline in Brazil and Latin America. With its headquarters in São Paulo, TAM offered extensive domestic services across Brazil and international flights to Europe, North America and South America. TAM shares were traded on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BM&F Bovespa) and the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “TAM”. Prior to the merger, TAM shares were transferred to the LATAM Airlines Group, and the airline closed its capital.
In August 2015, it was announced that TAM and LAN would fully rebrand to LATAM, with a unified logo for all aircraft by 2018. The airline exited the Star Alliance and joined the Oneworld alliance on 31 March 2014, before leaving the Oneworld alliance on 1 May 2020.
The name “TAM” stands for “Transportes Aéreos Marília”, reflecting its origins as a regional airline founded in Marília, São Paulo. LATAM Airlines Brasil now flies to 93 destinations, continuing its legacy of connecting people and places around the world.
This new route between Fortaleza and Santiago is expected to significantly boost tourism and business travel.
