Celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Route initiative with airBaltic’s competition to name its fleet after Baltic cities. Vote online daily from 5 to 22 August.
In honor of the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Route in August, Latvian national airline airBaltic is hosting a special voting competition to name its fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft after cities in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. A total of 48 aircraft will be named, with 16 aircraft representing each Baltic country. Online voting will be open from August 5 to August 22.
Martin GaussCEO and President of airBaltic: “35D “The Baltic Route anniversary is a momentous occasion that celebrates the unity and shared history of the Baltic states. By naming our aircraft after cities in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, we not only honour this great event, but also strengthen the relationship between our nations. It is a great honour for our fleet to carry the names of Baltic cities around the world, demonstrating our unity and pride.”
It is important to note that aircraft bearing the names of Latvian cities since 2018 will also be renamed.
The contest is open to everyone, regardless of nationality, citizenship or place of residence, and you can vote once a day. Participants can vote for any city with official city status located in Latvia, Estonia or Lithuania. The names of the top 48 cities will be revealed on August 23.
The Baltic Way was a peaceful demonstration held on August 23, 1989, in which about two million people joined together to form a 600-kilometre human chain across the Baltic states, symbolising their united stand for freedom from the Soviet Union.
airBaltic serves over 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius and Tampere, and seasonally from Gran Canaria, providing connections to a variety of destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the Caucasus region.
