Hilton plans to open three new hotels in Portugal by 2026, expanding its presence with diverse brands.
Hilton (NYSE: HLT) today unveiled its strategy to strengthen its presence in Portugal with three new hotels scheduled to launch in 2025 and 2026. The hotels will be launched under the Canopy by Hilton, Tapestry Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton brands, highlighting the company’s continued expansion efforts in the region.

Set to open in 2026, Canopy by Hilton Vilamoura Marina is located just 500 metres from Praia da Vilamoura and in the heart of the vibrant Vilamoura Marina. Created through a franchise agreement with Arrow Global Group, this 155-room boutique hotel promises to offer an exceptional local experience. The property features extensive amenities including the Canopy Central Restaurant & Bar, a spa, an outdoor pool and a fitness centre, ensuring guests have a refreshing stay.

Scheduled to open in 2025, Santo André Beach Hotel, part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, marks Hilton’s debut in the Santiago do Cacém area. Located in an area known for its pristine beaches and stunning natural scenery, the hotel offers a tranquil retreat for guests to relax and immerse themselves in nature while enjoying vibrant hospitality.
Part of the Tapestry Collection, developed under a franchise agreement with Mercan Properties Group, this hotel features 44 guest rooms, a restaurant, bar, gym and a rooftop pool with panoramic sea views. The hotel is ideally located just 200 metres from the Santo André and Sancha Lagoons Nature Reserve and 500 metres from Santo André Beach, making it an ideal place for nature lovers.
Scheduled to open in 2025, DoubleTree by Hilton Lisbon Airport is strategically located just a five-minute drive from one of Europe’s busiest airports. The new hotel, which is part of a franchise agreement with Mercan Properties Group, will feature 199 guest rooms and 20 suites, catering to business and leisure travelers seeking comfort and luxury.
The hotel will offer a range of facilities including a restaurant, bar and dedicated breakfast area, along with extensive meeting, incentive, conference and event facilities. In addition, guests will have access to a state-of-the-art fitness room and a spacious outdoor area, ideal for relaxing and recharging. A highlight of the stay will be DoubleTree’s famous warm chocolate chip cookies, symbolizing the brand’s commitment to hospitality and creating memorable experiences for guests.
Jordi Vilanova, President of Mercan Properties Portugal, highlighted the importance of this opening alongside the recent announcement of Hilton Alvor, which represents a strong expansion of their partnership with Hilton in Portugal. He noted that “these projects not only meet the needs of travelers, but also positively impact local communities by creating around 325 jobs, thus contributing significantly to local employment and investment.”
