Norwegian Air saw a significant increase in passenger numbers in July, carrying 2,526,093 passengers. Its regional partner, Widerøe, served 331,035 passengers, bringing the total to 2,857,128. This represents a significant 9 percent increase in passenger traffic for Norwegian Air compared to July last year, marking the highest number of passengers since 2019. In addition, the airline’s unit revenue matched the record it achieved in July the previous year, confirming its strong performance.
“I am very pleased with the great work done by all our colleagues during the busiest travel month of the year. Their hard work is reflected in all our figures, including the record high number of passengers who chose to travel with the group. For Norwegian, I am particularly pleased that we have achieved an improved load factor compared to last year and at the same time a 10 per cent increase in capacity. We are excited to see strong booking momentum for August and into the autumn season,” he said. Geir CarlsenCEO of Norwegian.
Norwegian Air saw a significant increase in capacity (ASK) in July, reaching 4,068 million seat kilometers, up 10 percent compared to the same period last year. Actual passenger traffic (RPK) also grew by 10 percent, totaling 3,763 million seat kilometers. Load factor rose slightly by 0.1 percentage points from July 2023, reaching 92.5 percent, an impressive increase of more than 8 percentage points compared to the previous month.
The airline demonstrated exceptional operational reliability, with 99.5% of scheduled flights operating as planned. However, punctuality saw a slight decline, with 67.6% of flights departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, down 5.6 percentage points from the previous year. Despite this, 93% of flights arrived within 60 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, a remarkable achievement considering the highly congested European airspace and numerous air traffic control restrictions. Norwegian Air operated an average of 87 aircraft in July.
Widerøe, Norwegian’s regional partner, also performed strongly in July, showing a significant improvement on last year. The regional airline’s load factor increased by 4 percentage points compared to July 2023, reaching 83.5 percent.
“We are pleased with Widerøe’s continued positive performance. Last July, Widerøe recorded a record high load factor for July. This shows that passengers appreciate the consistently high level of service provided by our colleagues at Widerøe. We look forward to continually improving the travel experience across the entire Norwegian Group for all our passengers,” he said. Geir CarlsenCEO of Norwegian.
In July, Widerøe (ASK) capacity reached 201 million seat kilometres. Actual passenger traffic (RPK) totalled 168 million seat kilometres, resulting in a load factor of 83.5 percent, an increase of 4 percentage points compared to July of the previous year.
