Sonesta Hilton Head Island Resort completes the first phase of its renovation, unveiling stylishly redesigned guest rooms inspired by the island’s natural beauty.
Sonesta Resort on Hilton Head Island proudly announced the completion of Phase 1 of its extensive renovation project, unveiling 340 newly renovated guest rooms at a “Find the Light” ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 9. Inspired by the island’s natural landscape, guest rooms have been upgraded with modern and stylish features, providing a serene setting for an unforgettable island getaway.
“We are delighted to officially unveil our newly renovated guest rooms in time for the peak summer season,” “We are thrilled to be welcoming you to Sonesta Hilton Head Island,” said Bob Cosgrove, general manager of Sonesta Hilton Head Island Resort.“We are committed to providing exceptional accommodations and amenities to travelers who visit us from all over the world, and this is just the beginning of what is to come.”
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Cosgrove was joined by hotel management dignitaries and prominent local dignitaries, including Bill Miles, chairman of the VCB Board of Directors of Hilton Head Island, and David Ames, interim mayor of Hilton Head Island. The celebration included speeches, DJ entertainment, and a variety of food and beverages, highlighted by the brand’s signature ice sculpture. Guests also enjoyed tours of the hotel.
The initial phase of the major renovation project kicked off in December 2023, culminating in the transformation of 340 guest rooms into elegantly appointed spaces. These rooms now showcase a soothing color scheme that reflects the serene atmosphere of Hilton Head Island. Each room is enhanced with updated bathrooms, plush bedding, coastal-themed furniture and decor, modern LCD flat-screen TVs, custom hardwood accents, and more. The interior design, featuring cool blues and earthy browns, combines coastal elegance with functional luxury, including unique touches like contemporary wall hooks for beachwear, decorative wall surfaces, and signature bedside lamps attached with leather straps.
Following the successful guestroom renovation, the next phase of the multi-million dollar resort’s renovation will focus on enhancing various amenities, including ballrooms, meeting spaces, dining and retail areas, outdoor spaces, and the spa. The second phase of upgrades is scheduled to be completed by May 2025, and will introduce a new hot tub and an adult pool with private cabanas. Additionally, improvements are planned for the lobby bar, which will be expanded, a renovated pool bar, new poolside retail space, and other dynamic enhancements.
The resort features a variety of 24 different room types, from deluxe rooms and executive suites to signature suites and fully accessible rooms, ensuring a stay that suits every traveler’s needs and budget. The crown jewel, the Palmetto Suite, boasts panoramic views of lush tropical gardens from its private double balconies. The suite’s spacious living and dining area is illuminated by natural light streaming in from floor-to-ceiling windows, while a luxurious marble bathroom with a Jacuzzi spa tub adds a touch of pampering. Additionally, the suite is equipped with a large dining table, a handy wet bar and many other upscale amenities. For a personal touch, suite and VIP guests receive custom embroidered hand towels upon arrival.
Nestled back on the dunes and surrounded by native palms and vines, the resort embodies the essence of Hilton Head Island’s Lowcountry. Strategically placed throughout the 11-acre property, hammocks and fire pits foster a peaceful connection between guests and the landscape. The resort’s U-shaped layout ensures that all guest rooms feature spacious private balconies, further enhancing the tranquil atmosphere.
Nestled in the protected and gated community of Shipyard, the resort offers guests exclusive access to the Shipyard Club, premier tennis courts and six world-class golf courses. Its strategic central location provides easy walking or biking access to Hilton Head Island’s popular restaurants, boutique shopping and other local attractions. The resort is just 8.5 miles from Hilton Head Airport and 47 miles from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, ensuring easy access for both domestic and international travelers.
