San Francisco International Airport has unveiled a new logo and brand identity, embracing its rich history and future vision with a vibrant, digital-focused design.
San Francisco International Airport has unveiled a new logo and branding, replacing the old “Airlines” logo that had been in use for nearly a quarter century. The rebranding signals the airport’s dedication to continually modernizing and improving the travel experience. It also captures the essence of the city’s vibrant history and creative spirit.
“We are excited to introduce our new brand and logo, which reflects the exciting changes taking place at San Francisco International Airport.” Ivar C. Satiro, airport director, said:“Like our old logo that represented a time period in the early 21st century, the new logo demonstrates our commitment to delivering an airport experience where people and our planet come first.”
San Francisco International Airport’s (SFO) new logo captures the essence of its proud past, dynamic present, and boundless future. Every element of the logo, from the flowing “S” to the wing-like “F” and the gate-shaped “O,” symbolizes these aspects. The logo’s primary color, called “SFO Golden Hour Blue,” shifts to a more vibrant, energetic blue, honoring the past and embracing the future. This change aligns with SFO’s new vision, “Inspire the Extraordinary,” and its mission, “Delivering an airport experience where people and our planet come first.”
At its core, SFO is all about people—the travelers, the local community, and the airport’s employees. The new logo’s diverse design, particularly the adaptable “O,” reflects the diverse essence of the people and initiatives that define SFO.
This rebranding process culminated an 18-month journey of market analysis and creative brainstorming. The new logo emphasizes a digital-first approach, ensuring optimal display across different digital platforms and devices. It features an easy-to-read font and design flexibility that adapts to different communication needs.
The new logo will be rolled out gradually, initially focusing on digital platforms. This will be followed by a refresh of uniforms, buses and printed materials, and then integrated into larger infrastructure and capital projects.
