Clarks Originals has opened its first store in Kingston, Jamaica in association with Kingston’s Signature Style, a family-owned business that has sold the Clarks brand there for over three decades.
Its old location in Central Plaza has been transformed to become the official home of the “complete Clarks Originals experience.”
The two companies have redesigned the store to reflect the aesthetic of Clarks Originals stores seen in London, Tokyo and Beijing.
It features blonde woods inspired by the wooden molds that help make Clarks shoes, a feature wall space that “speaks to Clarks’ nearly 200-year heritage,” and a custom-designed piece of art by local artist Taj Francis that celebrates the connection between Clarks and Jamaica.
The store offers the full Clarks Originals collection, exclusive product collections and brand collaborations.
This is a major development for the brand, as Clarks shoes have long been a staple of Jamaican culture.
“This store is a testament to the strong bond we share with the Jamaican community, and we look forward to continuing this journey together and building on our incredible shared history,” said Tara McRae, Clarks Chief Marketing and Digital Officer.
The brand is also working with Jamaican singer-songwriter Laila Ek and her charity Blessings and Light Foundation to provide support in the wake of the recent hurricane, and said it will use its new physical presence on the island to “find ongoing ways to support schools, community groups and charities.”
