This weekend, major hotel industry organizations, including American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators and Developers (NABHOOD), The Latin Hotel Association and the American Hotel Workers Association will celebrate National Hotel Workers Day, honoring the nearly two million individuals who work in the hotel industry in the United States. The day was established by the Latin Hotel Association and the National Calendar in 2022 and is celebrated annually on September 1.
Hotel employees are a staple of the travel and tourism industry, contributing to major events in Americans’ lives, from weddings to family vacations, while ensuring the safety and comfort of guests. The hotel industry offers more than 200 career paths, competitive wages, and numerous opportunities for advancement. The industry is expected to pay a record $123 billion in wages, salaries, and other compensation in 2024.
Kevin Carey, Interim CEO of AHLAHe emphasized the importance of hotel employees, saying, “The nearly two million people who work in U.S. hotels are the heart and soul of this industry. Their talent and drive create memorable visits for millions of guests each year.”
