Liverpool One has become the first retail destination in the UK to introduce two new systems to improve accessibility for all its visitors.
The two new tools – Sociability and Waymap – aim to support visitors before they visit as well as after they arrive at Liverpool One.
Social accessibility helps people with disabilities find accessible places in shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. The online Accessibility Guide provides “helpful and reliable information, including information about toilets and accessibility in shops, allowing visitors to filter results based on their specific needs, such as the availability of seating and accessible toilet facilities.”
“It takes the stress and anxiety out of planning a day out – helping more people with disabilities enjoy everything Liverpool One has to offer, and spend more time with the people they love, in the places they want to go,” said Matt Pieri, founder and CEO of Sociability.
Meanwhile, Waymap claims to be the first navigation app of its kind that works indoors, outdoors and even deep underground, without using GPS.
It includes step-by-step instructions and a level of accuracy that ensures all users can “confidently navigate anywhere (meaning) Waymap will enable users to explore Liverpool One independently”.
The app was created primarily for blind and visually impaired people, and also includes a step-free access option to help visitors with limited mobility.
