LA fashion icon Mamig, which is located next to Martin Margiela’s Beverly Hills store, is returning to the neighborhood after closing a year and a half ago. The new store will be located directly across from the iconic Gagosian Gallery at 417 North Camden Drive.
Once housed in designer Sonia Boyajian’s boutique jewelry studio with its stunning Art Deco architecture, the brand founded by Sonia Erem has now moved to Camden Drive, in a Victorian brick building reminiscent of London’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
Mamig has incorporated elements from the past, like this curvy table, and added statement furniture. She also features fashion favorites from Loewe, Marni, Walter Van Beirendonck, Balenciaga, and Y-Project.
Thanks to Iram’s passion for art, the new Mamij store opens onto a courtyard with baobab trees and a piece of art titled “Laocoon” by artist Per Kirkeby. A massive piece of polished bronze worth millions of dollars.
As with its previous spaces, Mamig Boutique this time shares its space with Michael Werner Gallery, which has just opened its first gallery in Los Angeles. The German gallery owner first opened in Berlin in the early 1960s, and now has galleries in New York, London and Athens.
At the back of the Mamig store, a passageway leads to the Michael Werner Gallery, where works by Markus Lüpperz and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes can be seen until September 9. The gallery specializes in contemporary masters such as Hans Arp and Francis Picabia, and also represents a number of highly talented European artists, including Don van Vliet, Per Kirkeby, and the German painter Florian Krøyer, to whom the next exhibition, opening on September 13, will be dedicated.
