H&M has launched a new collaboration with Indian fashion designer Anamika Khanna.
Now available online, the collection features a range of women’s and men’s clothing, jewellery and accessories, inspired by Khanna’s traditional Indian silhouettes with a contemporary twist.
“I have always felt that Indian fashion gets lost when it is interpreted by the rest of the world. Often, our fashion – in terms of culture, craft heritage and textile embroidery – is seen as traditional, not wearable or modern enough,” Khanna said.
“Things have changed a lot, and this collection with H&M allows me to take something Indian and make it global and contemporary.”
The womenswear collection includes flowing skirts, asymmetrical and low-cut caftans and silk pajamas, while the menswear collection offers a fresh take on traditional pieces, with graphic prints, graphic motifs and relaxed sportswear-inspired shapes.
The collection is completed with jewellery, with a range of earrings, cuffs and necklaces made from recycled metals produced locally in India.
“Anamika designs clothes to encourage the wearer to express themselves. The designs are fluid and loose, often in a way that can be customized,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M.
“The prints are also interesting. They incorporate many of the all-over print looks, combining traditional color elements with something more graphic.”
