In 1894, Aux Galeries Lafayette, the innovative fashion store that was founded by cousins Théophile Bader and Alphonse Cahen, first opened its doors at 1 rue Lafayette in Paris. One hundred and thirty years later, it’s time to celebrate. This fall, Galeries Lafayette is celebrating its 130th anniversary, notably by launching a wide range of unique products developed by some of its “friends” from brands and designers. For example, a hoodie by Louis Gabriel Nouchi, lighters by Ami Paris, a shirt by Rouje, socks by Agnès b., a mug by Marine Serre, a hat by Patou, and a handbag by Balzac Paris. The products range in price from €5 to €95.
All the accessories and souvenirs created by the brands and designers bear the “Go for Good” label and are on sale from September 6 to October 27 in all Galeries Lafayette branches. A pop-up store has also opened in the group’s Haussmann flagship store in Paris.
The anniversary logo is designed in colorful geometric shapes for the occasion, and appears on a capsule collection that includes, among other things, a hat, a cosmetic bag and a diary.
To celebrate the event, a dining table has been suspended under the Haussmann dome, where guests will enjoy an immersive audio-visual experience during afternoon tea and dinner. The experience will be complimentary for guests who book online.
Galeries Lafayette will once again participate in the European Heritage Days initiative on September 21, opening an evening visit with a screening of different films, to trace its history and promote it to the public. The group has also launched Minutes from the exhibitiona podcast series that reveals behind-the-scenes secrets at the store, with guests like Pierre Hermé and Nathalie Rykiel.
