Star by Julien Macdonald has become a popular brand in recent years as mass-market shoppers have seized on the obvious sex appeal of a designer who has previously worked with Chanel and Givenchy, as well as being a celebrity favorite.

The Designers at Debenhams brand has been popular, and in early 2023 Freemans – which sells the brand online – said it had enjoyed a strong Christmas with Star by Julien Macdonald as one of its top performers.

So a relaunch is an interesting prospect from AK Retail, which has acquired a number of brands in recent years and currently owns brands including Yours Clothing, BadRhino, Long Tall Sally, PixieGirl, M&Co, Evans and body care offering Whip&Woo.

The company has a history of relaunching brands it owns, and unlike brand acquirers who only take their properties online, it remains committed to physical retail, operating a number of stores across the UK.
