Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, the first Sofitel hotel in Southeast Asia, has recently received its first Green Globe certification. This 32-storey Art Deco-inspired hotel, located in the heart of bustling Sukhumvit in downtown Bangkok, embodies French sophistication.
Although only recently recognized, the hotel has been a pioneer in adopting environmentally sustainable practices. This includes the use of smart room technology, which provides real-time management of air conditioning systems to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
David Talbot, Hotel Manager “We are very proud to receive our first Green Globe certification. It represents our commitment to sustainable practices across all departments within our hotel. All of us at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit look forward to working on our sustainability initiatives and engaging more with our community in the future,” he said.
The hotel also managed to reduce food waste by 20% by implementing the Winnow system. This system helps the kitchen staff track and analyze waste, which helps chefs improve the menu at the all-day dining restaurant to reduce waste in the future.
Efforts to eliminate single-use plastic amenities continue, with soap dispensers installed in both public and private bathrooms. In rooms that still provide traditional soap bars, leftovers are collected and donated to Soap for Hope, which recycles and distributes them to communities in need.
The commitment to sustainability is evident in the hotel’s approach to reuse. After recent renovations, much of the furniture was refurbished rather than replaced. Tables were restored and chairs repainted, and a policy was put in place to return reusable seafood containers to suppliers to reduce waste.
Additionally, the hotel is eliminating plastic water bottles by introducing new water purification systems and hydration stations for guests and staff.
