The Loewe Foundation has announced the opening of applications for the Contemporary Art and Crafts Award. The eighth edition of the Crafts Award, sponsored by the Spanish luxury house, will take place in the spring of 2025 at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid.
Nominees can submit their proposals until October 30, 2024. These entries will be evaluated by a jury of experts, including prominent figures such as the brand’s creative director Jonathan Anderson, the foundation’s president Sheila Lowe, and Minseok Cho, architect and winner of the Golden Lion at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale.
The committee, which includes artists, essayists and curators from the worlds of fashion and art, will include additions such as Andrés Anza, winner of the 2024 Craft Prize, and writer and architect Frida Escobedo.
The jury will select 30 finalists who will compete for the grand prize of €50,000, as well as two special prizes of €5,000 each. Participants in the competition, which attracted 3,900 entries from artists from 124 countries in its last edition, will have the opportunity to exhibit their works at the Madrid Museum.
The award was created in 2016 by Loewe’s artistic director Jonathan Anderson with the aim of “demonstrating and celebrating novelty, excellence and artistic merit in modern craftsmanship”, and recognising emerging and established talents with vision and a drive for innovation.
