VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) is excited to unveil an exclusive livery for one of its new trains operating on the Québec City-Windsor line. Meet Lumi, the signature train in VIA Rail’s new fleet. Lumi features VIA Rail’s timeless monochromatic yellow livery while retaining the sleek, straight lines of the new train models. This special livery reflects VIA Rail’s commitment to blending tradition with modernity as it embarks on a new era of rail travel in Canada.
“Some of you may know by now that we have new trains on the Quebec City-Windsor corridor!” Brigitte Dagnol said“Lumi is another way to celebrate the arrival of our new fleet and let more people know that they can now enjoy an unparalleled on-board experience thanks to these modern, state-of-the-art trains. The monochromatic yellow, our signature brand colour, is simple and effective, representing a bold brand that will stand out in the Canadian landscape.”
Lumi will be the only train in VIA Rail Canada’s new fleet to feature this distinctive exterior design, which symbolizes the dawn of a new era in passenger rail travel. VIA Rail aims to make a bold statement with this unique design, setting Lumi apart as a beacon of change and innovation.
In the design process, different alternatives were considered to balance honoring the past with embracing the future. In the end, simplicity prevailed. Lumi’s luminous design evokes the iconic Turbo train that operated between Montreal and Toronto until 1982. This connection to the past, combined with a forward-looking aesthetic, positions Lumi as the “hero” of VIA Rail’s new fleet.
“When people arrive at stations and see Lumi, we want them to feel proud and excited about our train upgrade. We are looking at different alternatives, but we want the experience on board Lumi to be a little bit special, perhaps with some surprises for our passengers. We are constantly focused on delivering an exceptional experience from booking to destination, one that will become a staple memory of our customers’ journeys. Lumi is part of that vision.” Brigitte Dagnol adds:
The Lomé is a unique yellow train that is scheduled to enter service by the end of August. Before the Lomé can welcome passengers, it will have to undergo a series of rigorous tests, just like the rest of our new fleet. These tests will begin in the coming days along the route between Ottawa and Montreal. Watch for the Lomé as it embarks on this exciting journey!
