The Town of Hudson is set to see major infrastructure improvements thanks to a $3.4 million investment from the federal government and the town itself. The joint project will redevelop Lakeview and Selkirk streets, and introduce a new multi-purpose walking and biking trail.
The redevelopment project announced MP Peter Schiffke and Mayor Chloe HutchisonThis program is designed to benefit the entire community, especially seniors, students and young families, by encouraging active travel.
The project will include a new 1.2-kilometre multi-purpose path along Lakeview Avenue, providing a safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, the path will extend along Selkirk Avenue, connecting Lakeview Avenue to the village via an intersection with a pedestrian walkway leading to the nearby municipal park.
To further enhance safety, several traffic calming measures will be implemented to reduce vehicle speeds in this residential area.
This initiative is expected to encourage active transportation within the community, by providing a safe and accessible path for all age groups to enjoy walking and cycling.
Quotes:
Peter Shefky, Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil-SoulangesOn behalf of His Excellency Sean Fraser, Minister for Housing, Infrastructure and Communities“A large part of our quality of life in Hudson and our greater Vaudreuil-Solange community stems from our ability to access the wonderful environment around us and the active lifestyle we enjoy every day,” he said. “The new multi-functional Hudson trail we are announcing today will help ensure that children, parents and seniors who enjoy active living, whether it’s walking or biking in and around Hudson, have greener and safer options to do so.”
Chloe Hutchison, Mayor of Hudson Township“Lakeview has long been a major route for Hudson residents to walk, bike, walk their children or just walk their dogs,” he added. “Over the years, the deterioration of the narrow road surface has become an obstacle to pedestrian and cyclist safety. Adding a multi-use path and improving drainage will ensure a clear separation between cars and slower traffic, providing a greater sense of comfort and safety for people of all ages who want to walk and stay active throughout the seasons.”
