The Kerala Tourism Department has approved a major investment to develop infrastructure and tourism facilities at the world-famous Kovalam Beach. The department has allocated a budget of Rs. 3,66,83,103.65 lakh for the development.
Implementation of the master plan
The comprehensive project, titled “Action Plan for Enhancing Tourism Infrastructure at Kovalam Tourism Destination”, aims to completely rejuvenate Kovalam Beach. This initiative is part of a wider project Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board KIIFB projects focus on comprehensive development of infrastructure and tourism facilities in Kovalam.

The Ministry’s Planning Working Group, which met on July 8, approved the proposal for immediate development works. These works, which have received administrative approval, have been given priority for completion before the deadline. Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board Project complete. Immediate upgrades include:
- Site setup
- Landscaping
- pavement setting
- Street furniture installation
- Building renovation
- Street lighting
- Bathroom renovation
Project goals
The project aims to enhance the potential of Kovalam Beach, a major tourist destination that has been attracting visitors from across the world for decades. By upgrading the infrastructure and amenities, the Kerala Tourism Board hopes to further enhance the appeal of Kovalam Beach, especially in light of the surge in tourist arrivals to the state in the post-pandemic period.
