American Airlines has opened new doors for students in the Tulsa Institute of Technology’s Aviation Maintenance Technology program by giving them access to more than 3,000 industry mentors. This exciting partnership allows students to directly connect with Tulsa-based airline Aviation Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) through regular interactions both at the maintenance base and on campus. In addition, top students will benefit from guaranteed interviews for job opportunities at American Airlines.
This collaboration is the latest chapter in a long-standing relationship between American Airlines and Tulsa Tech, which aims to nurture the next generation of aircraft maintenance technicians. In 2011, American Airlines made a significant contribution by donating a McDonnell Douglas MD-80 to the school, which continues to serve as a vital resource for hands-on training. Additionally, Tulsa Airlines aircraft maintenance technicians have previously mentored Tulsa Tech student teams, helping them achieve recognition in the annual Aircraft Maintenance Council competition.

These parts will serve as valuable practical resources for students in their studies.
American Airlines employs approximately 5,000 team members at the Tech Ops – Tulsa facility, including 3,200 licensed maintenance technicians. The facility recently received a $22 million award from the State of Oklahoma for improvements, which complements a $31.6 million capital investment in the engine shop and a $350 million ongoing improvement project by American Airlines.
