As the summer holidays approach in Berlin and Brandenburg, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) is well prepared to handle the influx of passengers. From July 17 to September 1, 2024, the airport expects to welcome around 3.6 million passengers – 200,000 more than the previous summer. During this period, around 24,000 aircraft are expected to take off or land at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), which is 2,000 more flights than last summer.
Peak travel days, typically Fridays and Sundays, are expected to see between 80,000 and 85,000 passengers per day. Specifically, from Wednesday, July 17 to Sunday, July 21, around 390,000 passengers will pass through Bern Airport, including around 86,000 on Friday alone.
To ensure a seamless travel experience, Dubai Airports has enhanced and expanded its services at the terminals. The BER Runway programme, which allows passengers to book access to security checkpoints, now offers several thousand slots per day. In addition, BER Biometrics, a contactless facial recognition service, was launched on July 1. Many airlines now offer fast-track baggage drop-off options, with more than 120 baggage check-in machines available at both terminals.
This summer, German Airlines will offer direct flights to 144 destinations in around 50 countries. Mediterranean destinations remain the top choice, with Spain, Turkey, Italy, France and Greece particularly popular. Mallorca tops the list with around 900 flights, followed by Antalya on the Turkish Mediterranean coast with around 840 flights.
Ryanair leads the way with the most flights, with around 4,300 take-offs and landings, followed by easyJet with around 3,600 and Eurowings with around 2,500.
New destinations this summer include Salerno in Italy (served by easyJet), Tunis in Tunisia, Adana in Turkey and Casablanca in Morocco (served by Eurowings). SunExpress has also added Diyarbakir and Kayseri to its Turkish schedule.
FBB’s enhanced services and comprehensive flight options aim to provide travelers with a stress-free start to their summer vacations.
Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “We have carefully prepared for the summer holidays and have expanded our digital services at the airport once again. The whole team is looking forward to helping holidaymakers and families start their holidays. Passengers using BER Runway, fast baggage delivery and BER Biometrics services can make their stay at BER more reliable and travel stress-free.”
Travel Tips for a Great Vacation: Berlin Brandenburg Airport Recommendations
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) advises holidaymakers to arrive at their terminals two and a half hours before departure. Using digital services can significantly improve your airport experience:
BER runway: Passengers can book a specific time slot to access the security checkpoint up to seven days before their flight, ensuring a wait time of less than ten minutes.
BER Biometrics: Since early July, passengers have been able to use contactless services using facial recognition. By downloading the SmartDepart app and registering, passengers automatically get a place on the BER Runway two hours before their scheduled time slot. They can also print their luggage tag at the dedicated machines or access the Tegel Lounge using BER Biometrics.
Drop the bag quickly: For those who check in online through their airline’s app or website, this is the most convenient option. Passengers with only hand luggage can head straight to security. There are over 120 self-check-in kiosks in the terminals, allowing passengers to print baggage tags and check in their luggage. Many airlines offer this service.
Halls: The Tegel Lounge is offering a special offer during the holidays. Using the promo code “SUMMER24”, guests can save €7 per online booking, reducing the entrance fee to just €29. Both the Tegel and Tempelhof Lounges feature a large buffet with hot and cold dishes and a wide range of drinks.
Through these services and recommendations, BER aims to ensure a smooth and stress-free travel experience for all passengers.
