Bed bugs are found even in the most luxurious hotels, homes and paradises.
Hawaii now has a serious bed bug problem.
These pesky little creatures have been spotted in hotels, emergency services, and other public places. The last thing you want is an insect crawling across your salad cup while you’re looking out over Waikiki Beach.
For example, a Japanese couple with their young children spent a 30-day vacation in Hawaii at the luxury Hilton Hotel, and battled bed bugs for 10 of those days. Despite changing rooms, their efforts were unsuccessful.
The children suffered from bites, allergic reactions, and fever. The hotel management claimed that the pest control company did not find any bed bugs. However, a doctor who examined the children confirmed that the bites were consistent with bed bugs.

In another example of bed bugs being widespread, Honolulu’s emergency call center was temporarily closed for disinfection. Last year, the Honolulu airport terminal had to be cleaned and disinfected by the Department of Transportation to eliminate the bed bugs.
The concern here is that travelers are unknowingly carrying bed bugs on their bodies or in their luggage. The spread of these insects could devastate Hawaii, which relies heavily on tourism.
