Southwest Airlines has taken a major step by making its flight schedules available on Google Flights starting next Wednesday. The development marks a departure from Southwest’s longstanding practice of restricting flight searches to its official website.
With this new partnership, Google Flights users can now compare Southwest’s price options with other airlines. While travelers can view and compare prices on Google Flights, they will still need to complete their reservations on Southwest’s website by clicking on Google Flights.
This change provides a more convenient way for travelers to consider Southwest Airlines when planning their trips, though the airline did not specify how long this pilot program will last or whether there will be other changes in the future.
The announcement of this integration comes after hints were given by Southwest Airlines during its first-quarter earnings call in April, where potential changes to the boarding process were also mentioned.
It’s important to note that this integration is currently limited to Google Flights, so Southwest flights won’t appear on other travel aggregator sites like Kayak or Skyscanner. However, since last year, it’s been possible to book Southwest flights through Chase Travel, a development that gained attention in March.
