Travelex, the global travel money services company, is set to double its offices, terminal and staff at Singapore’s Changi Airport after winning a tender for a new five-year contract at the major Asian hub and winning the World’s Best Airport award a dozen times.
Travelex has been providing retail travel cash services at Changi Airport since June 2016, operating ten counters in Terminals 2 and 3.
Under the new contract, which will run from July 2024 to July 2029, Travelex will set up ten more offices across the airport, including in Terminals 1 and 4.
Our expanded offices are also expected to more than double staff numbers, from 65 team members to 135.
Located in the arrivals, departures and transit areas of Changi Airport, Travelex counters are open 24/7 and offer the airport’s 60 million annual passengers a full range of travel money services, including the exchange of over 50 currencies via exchange offices.
Winning the tender at Changi Airport represents a major milestone for Travelex as it continues to expand its retail presence across the world’s leading airports.
Last year, Changi Airport was named the World’s Best Airport at the World Airport Awards for the 12th consecutive time, in addition to winning awards for Best Airport Dining and Best Airport Entertainment in the World.
News of Travelex’s Changi Airport contract win comes as travel to Singapore and across Asia continues to recover.
The latest figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) show that airlines in the Asia-Pacific region saw a 27% year-on-year increase in demand compared to May 2023.
This performance keeps Asian airlines the largest contributor to industry growth in May, accounting for 42% of the total increase in global demand on a year-on-year basis.
Richard Wasaks, CEO of Travelex, said: “We are very proud of our relationship with Changi Airport, which is widely recognised as one of the best in the industry.
Extending our contract and doubling our presence is a real vote of confidence in Travelex’s business as travel across Asia continues to recover at a rapid pace.
“Convenience is at the heart of our proposal and the creation of ten additional desks, including across two additional terminals, means we will be able to serve more passengers at Changi than ever before.”
